Author Guidelines
(Traduction française en cours.)
ORNAC welcomes unsolicited manuscripts submitted by email to editor@ORNAC.ca. The manuscript length should be between 1,000 and 3,000 words, not including tables, figures, references, or appendices, and comply with the format of the APA Publication Manual, 7th edition, (2020). Details of formatting are included below. Please note that all manuscripts will be put through a double-blind peer review, the reviewers will make comments, ask for clarity if necessary, make suggestions for improvement, and ultimately make a recommendation for acceptance, acceptance with revisions (minor or major), or rejection. Confirmation of acceptance will be forwarded to you along with a copyright release form that must be signed by all authors.
Manuscripts are a vehicle for sharing information, knowledge, and experiences that contribute to the advancement of research and practice of perioperative nursing. The journal’s tone is formal to academic, using generic terms for any products, devices, or pharmaceuticals.
For Submission
All manuscripts must have an Abstract of approximately 200-250 words, written either in a narrative or structured form, the structured form mirroring the overall structure of the article. For example, the structured form for an original research paper would include headings such as: Introduction (or Background); Methods; Results; Discussions; and Conclusions – depending on the kind of manuscript. The Abstract would be structured with the same headings. Following the Abstract, please include a few keywords to help other researchers find your work. Keywords can be as few as three and as many as seven.
The main manuscript, as indicated above, must follow the APA guidelines and range between 1,000 and 3,000 words. Tables and figures should be sent in separate files, starting each table and figure on a new page. Permissions to reprint a table or figure from another source are the responsibility of the author(s) and must accompany the submission.
With your manuscript, please attach a cover letter declaring the research is original, the authors’ roles in preparing the manuscript (a Contribution and CRedIT Statement), references, biographical information and photo (headshot)for each author, including related credentials, and contact information for the corresponding author (name, postal address, and e-mail address). Upon acceptance of the article and before publication, the Editor will send a copyright release form to the corresponding author, which must be signed by each author involved with development of the manuscript (see www.ORNAC.ca for the form).
Contributions and CRediT Statement
This statement is a description of the Contributor Role and Taxonomy (CRediT), that shows the authors’ involvement in the various aspects of the research, in developing the article, and in preparing it for publication. Many journals require this with your manuscript submission. A sample is provided below. You can find more information about this on the Elsevier site: https://www.elsevier.com/researcher/author/policies-and-guidelines/credit-author-statement

The ORNAC Journal is unable to guarantee publication dates for articles. Our review process can require several months to complete and our aim is to publish all articles in a timely manner following acceptance for publication.
Please Note: Articles that have appeared in other print or on-line publications will not be considered for publication in the ORNAC Journal without express, written permission from all previous publishers. Authors should not submit articles to ORNAC Journal that are currently under review or consideration by other publications. We also request the opportunity to complete our review, editing, and publication process prior to articles being considered for reprinting (with our permission) by other publications.
We accept manuscripts that contribute to the knowledge pool and best practice of perioperative nursing. Manuscripts must be evidence-based supported by qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods clinical research. Some examples of manuscripts in the qualitative research category are data analysis, patient voice, randomized control trial protocols, or survey results and analysis. For quantitative research, some examples are literature reviews; observational prospective studies; randomized control trials; retrospectives; or systematic reviews. Mixed-methods research is a blend of qualitative and quantitative data.
