Deux défis auxquels font face les éducateurs et les établissements d’enseignement sont l’apprentissage à distance (ou en ligne) et les nouvelles technologies, surtout suite au développement considérable des technologies en ligne. La documentation en soins infirmiers technologiquement avancée englobe les supports électroniques1 et nos programmes éducatifs pour les infirmières et les infirmiers d’aujourd’hui doivent maintenir cette cadence. L’Internet a fourni de nombreuses occasions en matière d’éducation sans avoir à être physiquement présent dans la salle de cours.2
Les environnements de pratique périopératoire continuent de se caractériser par une complexité accrue et une acuité des besoins du patient et les données probantes suggèrent que des niveaux plus élevés de formation en soins infirmiers entraînent des effets positifs sur les infirmières et infirmiers, les soins aux patients et le taux de mortalité.1
Cet article présente un aperçu des antécédents de l’enseignement en ligne des soins périopératoires, de l’apprentissage en ligne et de ses avantages et désavantages pour les apprenants en plus de souligner les éléments importants du programme qui devraient être inclus dans la formation en soins périopératoires.
