Abstract

Laparoscopy has been a diagnostic and treatment technique successfully used by gynecologists for more than 30 years. With recent technical ad- vances in equipment, general surgeons have developed laparoscopic techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of appendicitis and gall bladder disease.“ Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was introduced at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto in July, 1990, the first time this type of surgery was performed in Toronto.
